| Belly Dragger Getting Closer!!!!
Things are moving along nicely for my first tuber project. I never thought I'd like building one but I'm having more fun with it than my other trucks. Here she is still are roughed up. The Die Grinder will clean her up and make her pretty very soon. I am mounting the inverted Emaxx tranny today, new suspension links, shocks, etc. Here are a few quick shots of the progress. |

Looks sweet!!!! Thats really the only thing I don't care for in working on RC's. The stuff is so tiny it's hard to get a good beed on anything. Kinda defeating really,I build a complete 1:1 Toyota with EXO,SAS,duals, yada yada yada. I'm tickled with all my welds on the Toyota. This little RC is making my welding look worse than my 8 year old sons welding. Give him a scrap piece of 1/4" plate and he can wear it out. One ?,having your tranny inverted, won't that do funky things with your driveshafts. Seems that they'd be in VERY steep angles, even for a belly dragger. I'm sure you've got something up your sleeve,I was just curious. Looks great. |

Yah I can see what your saying. I found the key to be a very good mig welder and a auto darkening helmet. i cant say enough about the auto darkening when your welding small beads like on a roll cage its the only way. |

Looks good Dirk. I cant wait to start welding mine. I'm trying aluminum though. I see your axles sitting on spare tires...here's a suggestion...a 1/4" plywood cradle with notches cut out for the axles to hold them solidly at a set wheelbase while fabricating. I have a woodshop so I have gobs of 1/4" plywood around but thinking about it, heavy cardboard would work too duct taped together. Put a cross piece in to hold the sides up. Eric |

Using a Lincoln MIG but I'm not using the gas....so I guess it's just in flux core mode. I made it in my basement and I don't have a bottle down there. It works just as good but not quite as "clean". It will look nice after I get some of the boogers off and it painted black. Yep...welding the rc stuff is tricky cause it's so small. I like the wood "mock up" idea. Thanks......I'll try that. I'm still hoping the inverted tranny thing works. It worked for Muzz and I've always wanted to give it a shot. |

I dont think that is agood idea - the aluminum - aluminum is 3 times harder to weld then steel and with everyone saying the RC scale is even harder than 1:1 I think its going to be a mother ****** , but good luck anyways | |

I'll like it better once I tear it down and build a bunch of parts so it actually works as a rock crawler! |

Dirk, you might need to get that VMG up and running for the 11th, that's my next project as soon as I sell my Toy and find me a Subie.
