| Gear size preference?
Do you guys find it better to use the smallest gears possible to achieve your goal ratio or bigger? For instance if I ran a 12:96, do you think the smaller gears would be better than say a 18/144? Obviously you are still getting the 8:1 ratio, but I see pullers using ENORMOUS spurs and decent sized pinions and wondered what the general concensus was. Maybe I'm just retarded and overthinking this but whatever. |

I try to keep the gears small for driveline and chassis clearance. In my AX10 tuber i built recently, if i go with a spur bigger than 87, it runs into the roof. And on a pede trans, i think if you run bigger than an 87, you cant fit Maxx shafts.

Yes, but on my WK and my Maxx I can run just about anything with a custom motor plate.

Generally running a smaller pinion and spur will result in better driveline clearance and lower rotational mass. The effective gear ratio will be about the same, but the real factor is if it will fit on your chassis.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I wanted to try to run a really small pinion/spur on a tranny for a crawler and then I was thinking maybe it wasn't the best idea.
