| New addition: Project YJ - Now Complete 08/24
Here 's my newest addition. An antique Tamiya Jeep Wrangler. I had one of these about 10 years ago and it got trashed. Got this one on ebay and it's in excellent shape. Will be adding a TQ3 from The Crawler Store, a lathe motor, locking the diffs and adding a winch I made from a Futaba S3005 servo. Along with a few other scale details.

Nice... I really miss mine. I sold it on eBay about a year and a half ago for around $250. It was nicely modified. I saw it on eBay a month ago, maybe less, it sold for $380. Lesson learned. At least I still have some NIP bodies though |

They stopped production in around 1995 so they are very rare, this drives up the prices That's actually not an unreasonable price.

| COMPLETE! Now with Worknig Winch
Well I finally completed the rebuild of my YJ. I totally stripped the truck down and rebuilt everything. I added fresh grease and locked the front and rear axles. The motor was swapped for a lathe and a three channel remote was added. New tires and wheels went on next as well as a suspension lift in the rear using left over bushings that were not used on other projects. This gave it about a 1/4" boost in the back. The shocks were cleaned and filled with 25wt oil. And I added a fully functional winch. This last weekend I killed my Rubicon body in a comp so I harvested the winch off of the front, it's purley a cosmetic cover. The winch was made from a hi-torque futuba servo and is on the third channel. It also uses 80lb braided fishing line. The biggest issues was finding where to mount the winch. It wouldn't fit between the wheel wells as I thought it would. The chassis has a nifty spot to mount a ESC or additional servo, so I mounted the winch in that spot and used left over rod ends from my TLT to route the cable to the front and center. It works like champ and as you can see in the one pic it's hanging by the winch from the work bench. Here are a few pics, enjoy! Last edited by cheapjeep2; 08-24-2005 at 11:47 PM. |

Totally cool! But, don't the lower links to the rear axle hang up like a mofo? |

Yea they would in tough spots. But this is not my basher, this is my shelf queen that I will be gentle around the yard and in the house as it's got big sentimental value and the fact that none of the parts are available anymore. My very first kit was a Tamiya Wrangler back in 93. It was given to my nephew who trashed it, when I got back in to the RC and crawlers, something was missing from the collection and I had to find another one.
