Didnt know where else to put it, but I have been lookin at these for my next tuber. Hope this helps a little.

I'm going to take my axles apart and do some measuring. You ard right about the center section. I'm going to see if a long side and a long side bolt together and the same for the short. The dogbones are different lengths. I'm pretty sure it can be done with no machining. Stay tuned.

The axles come assembled in the kit. I didn't look at them very well either.
