| Digging outside the box
Well I wanted a dig really bad but couldn't afford to buy one so I started scrounging through my pile of junk and came across an old 3 speed tranny that was broke. I remembered that it had sliding colliers to shift gears and that gave me an idea. first I gathered the parts from the tranny that I thought i would need Here they are in the order i will be assembling them. Now the idea is the center shaft will seperare the tranny from the drive shaft. The gear to the left will attach to the tranny and the gear to the right will be attached to the mount. here is how it will work: DS connected to tranny Neutral disconnected and rear locked To start I tapped the first gear for 4-40 set screws then attached it to the tranny then i made a plate to hold the last gear. I made the hole small and pressed the gear into it then added a bit of solder to keep it tight I then added the slider shaft Here is the completed unit ready to go in After a bit of adjustment I got it in and working great! DS connected Disconnected and locked unfortunately I only have a 2 position switch on the controller so i don't have the option of neutral but if I feel I really need it I may mod the controller. I hope this will give everyone another option for a dig set-up. it's compact, simple and works great! |

Just wow that's one of the best dig set up I've seen including the production ones. Keep us posted on how it holds up, I would love to make something similar to it.

Very nice - looks like a factory setup. Do you think durability will be an issue? |

Thanks everyone! Quote: Quote:
It does stick in the locked position when under stress however, but I may be able to take care of that with a stronger servo and a more solid servo mount.

Only thing Chino63 has to do is make sure to clean it, sand and dirt will really hurt that setup. However when its clean its flawless |

It's nice to be able to dig into the old r/c junkyard and fab up something sweet like that. Nice dig!

Nicely done there! Just think, you could have bought one of the aftermarket ones like most of us and not only have many issues, but burn up servos and other fun things. I should go to momanddads and start rootin around for some old rigs. Great idea! |

He says he has no problems, but I have seen a few. Same as my problem. Granted he won the series, but it was not due to a flawless dig. Keep it clean & lubed. And hope for the best.
