Default HR Axle Swap on ARTR AX10

Finally Ran this rig today and realized I am past due on getting this info posted up on the Hot Racing Axles.

During the initial run everything worked ok. Ran into some binding issues with the steering. Also had the front axle lock up completely on me more than once. Still need to look into that!! They are noisy without any grease in them, but that is to be expected from all metal gears. The factory clocked front axle is a nice touch. All the AX10 links clear the gear case and motor under full flex with hardly any space to spare.

Test Rig:

Axles:

My quick fix for the upper link offset. I used some of the conical washers that are included in the servo mounting hardware.

The shafts proved to have VERY tight tolerances with the bearings. I had to take them to the belt sander and take a few thousandths off to get the bearing to slide on.

I love the clear gear cover

Front and rear initial installation

TCS Order:
HR Knuckles
Integy 45t lathes

Used some old Ofna shocks that matched the color scheme perfectly. They are still butter smooth too. Losi whites fit on them with a little work.

Mayhem Eng offset wheels.

HR Steering setup, and steering angle

Its around 10.5" These are full offset wheels. I bet 9.5-9.75" would be easy to get with the berg offset wheels

Works great, HUGE improvement over the ax10 setup. Mostly due to the lower weight and having the instant dig.

I just received my East End Machining Delrin skid plate last week. I need to install it and get the lower links inboarded. Cant wait to get it on, its extremely nice and the few times I drove this rig with these axles I am getting hung up on the links mounted to the outside. Nice to be able to just buy the part to fix that

Squeezed in a few quick runs this week. Here are the pics.

Only carnage was an axle tube screw. Backed out and got chewed up in the gears pretty badly. The gears dont even have a scuff on them So remember, take apart the axles and loctite everything!!

that is pretty bling. so i have a question since i dont know almost jack about these things yet. do you have two steering knobs on the control and each sends a different signal (1 for front steering, 1 for rear) or are you just stuck with all time 4 wheel steering. ive thought about 4 wheel steer already when i want to build mine.

edit: cancel that question. i just found a bunch of transmitter stuff on rear steer. im off to bed ive been on here way go long.

He has the rear locked out.

Nluvwithxlr8ing, does the truck not act a little funny on the climbs with the rear sitting down like that? I know its not as bad since its not a shafty but wasn't sure if it affected it any.

Its somewhat of an illusion with the bent rear links. The AS is a little off, however the center of gravity is so low with the motors on the axles the rear links actually converge just below the center of the axle. For a "Factory" link setup its not that far off. Of course it will never be perfect but I cant wait to start tweaking it

They hold up pretty freakin well, I still cant believe the gears chewed up that 3mm screw without leaving a mark on them

Yeah, I look at the skid when I try to figure that out. The links do make it look like its way back but I could tell it was just a little. I have just noticed that my rigs always end up with the nose down a little when I get them tweaked.

It looks like it would be about perfect for some straight links in the rear and would give a little better coverage of the motor.

Looks great by the way.

Thanks Mike. I dont see a reason that they are better than the bergs yet, unless width is an issue.

They are loud, but so are my bergs, I have heard some silent berg axles and the HR axles are nowhere near that. Might be the grease though?
