What is the best way to link mount shocks so that they don't swing the links and make the whole truck loose?

Try mounting them like Pinchflat and Kaetwo do, with the shock "upside down". I tried it last night and it werks good.

I am 99% sure that Kaetwo and Pinchflat use cable clamps; just like the Gecko uses.
I have not run my truck with them yet but I did use just yer average cable clamp and saw a major reduction in flop last night while cycling the suspension on the workbench.

Cable clamps are little white plastic clamps that goes around the link and have a mounting hole for the shock. You can get them at a decent hardware store or RadioShack

I'm going to (again, hope you dont mind Grizzly) copy Grizzly's style of coil spring/shock setup, and use clamps to link mount either my savage shocks or my old maxx shocks. To hold the clamps to the links, I'm going to drill and tap a 3mm hole in the links and the clamps and run a short 3mm screw so that it can't move.

Adam, no I dont mind if you do a coil spring suspension. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? I am sure you will like it.
Just dont paint yer rig white with burple flames.

The plastic ones break fairly often. You can get metal ones at hardware stores. I found them at ACE.

I am also wonting to get some info on this.

And I'm trying to find out what would be better:
A) shocks mounted to links with a clamp.
B) custom square links with a raised mounting hole.

With option (B) I don't know if the shock will bind when articulating. I plan on mounting the shocks up side down.

Give feed back & pics Please.

Thanks in advance.

Here is what I have done.

1/4" Collars from Ace Hardware Store. Just under $2 a piece w/ set screws. If you look at them you'd think they would twist all over the place but they don't. I've seen some Custom Clamps that I would love to have but, they are at least 2x as much $$$

To keep cable clamps from slipping on the links I use a thin strip of 600 grit sand paper doubled over the link so the grit is in contact with the link and innner cable clamp surface. Never had one slip in this configuration.

Wow...this is an old thread!

However, the size of the cable clamp will depend on the OD of your links.

I am aware :p was hoping someone could chime in with the size so I could pick them up on my way home from work lol. I thought of the idea and searched and this is the thread I got. No point in starting a new one.

Maybe what I should ask is. What is he OD of a stock axial link?

I use 3/16" clamps on 1/4" links. That keeps the clamp on tighter and doesn't let it slip near as easily. Also you must run your shocks upside down with a solid mount at the clamp. This will give the best performance.

Axial links are 6mm diameter, or .23 inches. I'd try the 3/16" clamps, they should hold well.
