Default 1.9 class tuber with modified Poulson axles

Just a teaser pic for now. I have to finish up some minor details and see how it performs. I will do a build thread soon.
It is a 8.5 wheel base and under 8in width.
By the way, this was not my idea. Mike Poulson just happened to mention it at St. George, Utah while I was looking at his really cool mini crawler.
I had to see if I could do it.

Default 90% finished

Let me say right away that I do not have the equipment to machine the parts the correct way. I have a large drill press and an xy table. This makes my errors even greater. I works for me, but not for some.
The axles have to be modified just a little in order for them to get the right width. As you can see in the pic below, the C's are moved to the inside of the strut and the strut has to be machined slightly in order for the C's to fit right.

Default Axles and CVD's

The axles and cvd's need to be swapped to the TC3 stock ones. The HPI touring car wheels can now be used, and there are many to choose from.

Default Shocks

My biggest problem was the shocks. There are so many that could be used. I picked some Traxxas shocks for the front and Losi XXX buggy shocks for the rear.

Default Tires

I have already cut up two Panther's and I don't really like the way they preform. The Losi Rock Claws that will be released soon may be the ones. Maybe something else.

Default Small package.

As you can see the Crawler is a very tight fit. I have reworked most everything once. The drive lines are very short and the skid has to be left open in the middle so the angles will work . The drive line clicks a little at full droop.

Default Proof is in the tape measure

It is under 8.5 and the width is 7 3/4 in. Room for a 2 or 3 mm offset wheel.

Default body panels

Well this the finished product. It looks like what I have built in the past, so I like it. These short little buggers are fun to drive. They don't give much of a warning when they are ready to topple over or flip.
I need to put some springs inside the droop shocks, use a lighter oil, and just figure out the best tires. I have not driven a Losi mini , so I can not compare anything to this. I can say it acts like a 2.2, but can not handle as rough of terrain.
All in all I think I will like this class for the most part because I will be competing with very similar rigs.

Very nice Motorman, thanks for pioneering the way, I can see now what I need to do. I have 2 axles done but can't seem to commit to the rest.

its so cute!

and you know it would sit right on a trailer behind the motorhome...

it may need more weight on the wheels to get any tire to bite well.

That has a load of clearance with the cougs and the hc axles! nice work. Glad to see people are already trying new things with the new class. I think I will personally stick with the mrc axles because I'm going for the low cg instead of high gc since these things are so small. Hope it does well. I would enjoy a video ;)

Hi Mike, Well get to work man. Your builds are always over the top in quality and skill. Can't wait to see how you are lowering the CG. I just can't seem to stop building stuff.:-P Mine is just a wee bit top heavy. It works well until you get to a point, and then boom, it's over on it's top. Very little notice that it's about to happen. The big servo does not help. Are there any little ones with high torque??

Default 1.9 tuber video

I hope this is the right way to post a video.

The cougar's are getting better. I softened them up a little in the middle and made the sidewalls stiffer.
You REALLY need to pay attention when driving one of these little buggers.

Default On the right track

I went to a GTG today and gave it a good test. It works great, crawls up some rough stuff. It is still a little top heavy, so It may need some reworking of the weight up top. I have a really great designer working on the problem.;) Well, OK he's working on his own 1.9 and I am trying to keep up.
