I love the 'backbone' style chassis, I can see a lot of advantages. Been trying to get a buddy with a Berg to do something similar but he thinks I'm off my rocker.

Can not wait to see the whole thing....PICS, PICS, PICS!!!

3 local guys all run HR axles here. I'm a bit harder on mine, i have snapped 4 inner axles and one locker.

With the axial stub axles shaved down on the back side you get better turning than the berg, make sure you use the orings in the stubs or you will snap an inner shaft. Same with the lockers. I have busted the piss out of mine but i love them, i'm getting ready to start a second build with them.

I think the combined damage report from Me, Rizzo and Vanman are 7 inner axles(mostly mine), 1 locker(mine), one stripped tube(mine), and various stock and aftermarket knuckles (stock axial ones work best, trust me)

Great build, show us the chassis picks!

i saw the pics you posted over on sincity, i love the creativity in this rig!

and as for axles, ill stick with my bergs, i think they're better quality than the HR axles, the only thing ive broken so far is a bearing, i couldn't ask for more.

being in south Jersey and winter I have only have one outing with this rig... during that test I did feel a bit of an advantage while hugging a rock while DIGing and tight turns... the chassis was allowing me to get into and out of tighter spots... so with those findings I'll be running this design for the 2009 season...

ever since the alum clops chassis was build, the weight bothered me not that it was really heavy, but I knew I could build it lighter... so after talking with Turbo I decided to use carbon fiber... I picked up a 9x12" x 2mm slab of CF (wow that shit aint cheap).... I also wanted to tweak the design a bit and now was the time, after a little puter time I was happy with the new design... off to Staples for label stock, I found full sheet labels (8.5x11") printed out the design/template and stuck it to the CF panel... I used a crappy little band saw to cut these out..... Note: after cutting these three SMALL pieces, the blade was wasted!!!.... next was drilling and sanding.... heres some pics....

Next will be making the new skid....

I like it. Nice work so far. I've been considering options for 4 link mounts and a lay down servo mount for my HR axles also. It looks like you've done what I've had in mind to try. Things look good so far. Looking forward to the updates.

Nice build. I like the chassis design. I found that using a diamond abrasive coated blade instead of a toothed blade in my bandsaw, it cuts CF like butter. I have cut around 200 feet with one blade and still going strong. I picked it up at Mcmaster carr.

Ill have to try that, I found out the hard way how rough CF is on band saw blades.
