Default Making a steel bumper

Well first, i apologize for all the topics but I have ideas and i'm working on them but I'm not to informed on the crawling industry.

Take a look at this model and tell me what you think. I took some measurements from the stock plastic bumper. The thing is terrible. Aren't you supposed to use these to help you glide up steep faces? It just pushed back. Well I'm going to make a steel one. Look better too. So here is my design. 1/4" steel wire and 20ga plate. Shouldn't weigh to much. I'll powder coat it gloss black and probable make up a tube bumper for the back to match. Think this will be enough?

That should be plenty, I'm going to do something similar with mine soon.

i really dont think the bumper is there to help glide up surfaces. it is a hoop designed to protect the hood in a rollover. which this one doesnt because it isnt tall enough...

I took mine off since it didn't do any good. A stinger bar, as they're known as in the crawling industry, is to keep you from doing an end over roll on a steep decent. You'll just flop onto one side and keep from going a long way down hill.

I was looking at making a custom roll cage from aluminum arrow stock. Much lighter weight and easily bent with a good bender. Problem for me is sticking it together. I don't have the cash to get the aluminum kit for my mig welder yet.

I say, go for it. I want to see the rear bumper.

Well you guys make perfect sense. I can see how it would stop you from flipping end over end and direct you to the side. Thanks for the info! I'm still going to make it though. I think it would be neat to have some powder coated parts, it will probably just be way to heavy.

If it goes well i might mock up some rocker panel guards and that rear bumper. I'd like to see the rear bumper also.

My only concern would be that it still has plastic mounting points. I'd think the mounting points would take a lot of stress with a metal stinger.
