Default Pinion selection

I'm running a stock axial transmission with the stock 87T Spur gear and 14T Pinion gear with a calculated distance between centers of 27.78mm. Instead of swapping out the 55t motor with a less wound motor to gain wheel speed, can I swap the pinion for a higher tooth count? Will the motor plate have enough play.. According to these calcualtions,

87T spur with 17T pinion= 28.58mm (.8mm +/- difference)
87T spur with 20T pinion= 29.37mm (1.59mm +/- difference)

sierra I put a 20t pinion on mine just to try it, so there is enough adjustment there. I'm currently running a 18t on my scaler with 55t and it works fine as long as you have the room inside your chassis for the motor to adjust you'll be fine.
