Default First 1:18 w/4-wheel Steering and Lights?!

I've been busy with my little Nylint this weekend. My Scorpion is now equipped with 4-wheel steering as well as headlights and crawling lights.

The swap over to 4-wheel steering is quite easy. The motor wires up the same as with the rear axle. The steering motor was wired in reverse polarity to the front motor at the same place on the PCB. Since it's using non-proportional steering (for now), sometimes the front wheels don't want to turn the same as the rears and centering back is sometimes a small issue. I can overlook all of this since I know that the problems are due to the way the vehicle is set up. Once I get aftermarket electronics and servos in, I won't have any problems.

The headlights and crawling lights are each 10,000mcd bright white LEDs. Each pair (two headlights, left crawling pair, right crawling pair) are wired in series with a 220ohm resistor. All of the postives are then wired together and all of the negatives are wired together. Since I didn't have a small switch to use, I used the factory battery connectors from my Mini-T to turn the lights on and off. The headlights are also wired to one of these connectors so taking the body off is quite easy.

I hope you all like it. Disregard the wiring job. I aware that I SHOULD have all of the resistors shrink-wrapped or black-taped. I might go back later and do something about it.

Here's some pics that I just snapped outside in the rock feature in my front yard. All of the pics were driven into and then back out of for the next shot. It's way cool to be able to drive this thing at night. And, as you can somewhat tell in the last picture, the two 10,000mcd LED headlights put of quite a bit of light.

I love the ingenuity of the mod, but I dont see a point for the low running lights.

I wuold either mount them as some fog lights on the top of the axle, or put them as a lightbar ontop.

4ws is quite awesome. Very good job on that...

Keep up the modding, hope my opinions didnt swat anyone elses.

the lower lights are for rock lights. in the 1:1 world of rock crawling, people put those on so they can see the terrain they are going over. it helps a ton at night

Yeah, I plan to do a complete repaint later on. I have some really cool spray paint that I used on my daughter's tricycle that is anti-slip. It sprays on and has the texture of 200 grit sandpaper. I plan on spraying the entire underside of the body in this and then paint the top another color other than yellow. I'm not sure what color I'm going to go with yet.

I like the lights. I was thinking about the same thing, but just couldn't figure out how to do it. Congrats to you for figuring it out. Where did you get the LED's? Price?

I got the LEDs off of eBay a year or so ago. I bought a 50-pack of 10,000mcd white and a 50-pack of 10,000mcd blues for $15 each, including shipping. I do Xbox mods on the side and have used up all but two of my white LEDs. I still have 20 or 30 blue ones.

I do a bit of everything...softmodding, LEDs in controllers (lighted buttons), LEDs in controller ports and cable ends and some general repair like DVD laser replacement, etc.

Here's a quick pic of my latest. I used a 3rd party clear case DVD bezel. The letters were masked off and then the bezel was painted black. There are two white LEDs inside the bezel. What I'm most proud of is the fact that there are NO wires running from the console to the bezel. I used metal contacts on the bezel that when closed touches two brass wires that are attached to the power supply. It really is a cool system, if I do say so myself.

Sorry to stray OT on this thread, but I guess it's not too bad since it's my thread to begin with! If you want to talk anymore about the Xbox mods, PM me or email me.
