| Losi 1/10th setup ideas?
Ordered the new losi crawler and interested in a little feedback on the electronics setup. So far thinking about a FX-R or maybe sidewinder, Holmes 45T, 3s lipo and a big servo (not positive which one). Seems like getting a Holmes motor could be a challenge. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Is anyone else buying one of these new crawlers? This site is great for newbie's like myself, I'm loving this stuff, don't even have the crawler yet and purely addicted, driving my wife crazy. ----------------------------- "Stop boss'n me around bosser" Jim Gaffigan Last edited by dirtman; 02-14-2009 at 10:29 AM. |

I got one on back order right now. I was watching the live broadcast last night and they were saying it will not be out until May it looks like.

Ditto, I was just at my LHS and asked about when they'd get it, they said that it was pushed back to the end of March, but looked it up on the computer and saw that it was now May, wholly cripes! I wonder if they are pushing it back to work out problems with the parts? Traxxas should have done this with the Summit, peeps are breaking the diffs left and right... |

Yea, I'm thinking of this as a good thing. Any setup ideas for this thing? The worm drive could be a bit slower but should be ultra tough. Anyone use a Holmes motor?

i think losi taking there time and making sure they get it right is a damn good thing. look at some of the aftermarket losi parts they put out for the mrc, they are breaking left and right. with losi taking there time and makign sure they have there normal high quality in these trucks is the best thing they can do for image and also for us, whos going to want to buy a pos? look at the creeper and how many people have had problems with those? still not alot of people are driving them. Way to go losi on keeping up such high quality weve all waited this long whats another couple months for a bullet proof truck that will kill the bergs |

The drive train is almost like that of the Rock Force, higher turn motor, and you won't need a drag break. Brushless motors should do well in this thing.

Brushed or brushless? This decision is tough for me, it is a 50/50 debate with no clear winner. I will probably go brushed at first (45t maybe) with a sidewinder and if I'm not happy switch to brushless later. Hell I don't know.

For most crawlers I'd say brushed, with this guy and how low it is geared brushless motors should do well.

Pre-order mine in Dec. - should be somewhere near the front to get one - we'll see. I'm going to use a 45t handwound, FXR, cc bec, JR8711 (steering) mg225(dig) Spectrum sr3100 rx w/ dx3r. I'll change the pinion once I get the car to get the wheel speed I want - I'll start with a 12t. This is going to be fun!!! |

Really you should wait until you see them post the final crawl ratio. With the worm gear majority of the gearing is in the axles so you should in theory be able to run a very fast motor with not much torque needed. I think motors like the cobalts are going to be way too inefficient to run. I suspect something like a 45 turn is gonna be too slow..even on 3s. |

I've been thinking hard on this motor issue and a hand wound holmes 35-45T is what i had in mind, and with the sidewinder I have an option of brushless later , but your right about the worm gear and it has me a little scrambled.

It'll be interesting...I'm sure the time that they are taking is figuring out the gearing. Brushless motors might have a bright future with these axles. Have the crawl ratio 100:1 and low end control might not be an issue anymore with brushless....but then on the flip side is runtime then very short because of the speed the motor has to run at....but there'd be such little effort needed to turn at that speed maybe run time would be even better....see lots of things to figure out :-P I say just wait till you hear more...hopefully we hear something soon |

Yea, I might just hold out on the motor and wait for a little more info, not like I don't have time.

I got all the electronics already. DX3R, JR DS8711, JR Hi-Torq MG mini servo, 3S LIPO, CCBEC, 1/10th XCELORIN ESC and 17.5T sencored motor. Almost all the same as the one in RC CARACTION .

I was going to wait on the electronics until I had the car in hand to see what might fit best, but if I'm waiting until May, screw it I'm buying this stuff now so I'll be ready and won't have to wait any longer. More than likely will be the sidewinder esc (brushed or brushless option) 3s lipo, cc bec, mini servo for dig, 333 or 400 oz. servo, DX6 radio (fully programable) and some sort of Holmes motor either a 7-10T Cobalt or the P-94 35 or 45T. Guess I'll stare at the parts until May.
