| Dogbone Surgery
Is it possible to shorten dogbones and still have them be as strong as they were when you started? I need to shrink some twin force dogbones so I can shorten the width of my axles for a project I want to get started. I guess I could always trade someone some long dogbones for some short ones but I was wondering if there was any way to shorten them. Thanks for any information you can give. I tried to search and find a way to do it, but the search terms I was using didn't return anything. If there is a link to what I'm wanting please post it. Clark |

If you cut to the length you want...then sleeve the cut portion, then weld both ends, you should be alright. Just go easy because that's a lot of heat for such a small part. Don't want to burn through it |

You can cut and weld, sleaving, like Toyo suggested, works good. Honestly it's easier just to get the length you need. If I had the option of buying over rewelding them,I'd a bought mine. The problem in my case was I needed dogbones that were 1" longer than the longside. I couldn't find any that were longer than the Twin's longside shaft. Let me look outside tomorrow,I may have a few shortside shafts laying around. If I've got at least three,I'll trade ya. I'd like to keep at least 1 short side for a spare for my sons Twin. |
