| How long do you guys make a crawler last?
I got thinking about this as i was out on the rocks today, I broke a axial rod end, And now my servo is just plain weak. It just seemed to put the cherry on the thoughts i have had on it lately. I have owned my AX-10 Rig since Aug. 2007. Changed a multitude of parts to keep with times, SWX, dig, ESC and radio. Also done tons of mods HD R&P and all the alum knuckles etc... Now it just seems everytime I'm out on the rocks something else goes out, breaks or squeaks and sounds like an old chevy on the trail. Some guys will change 2.2 rig every season and keep their supers for years and years. With the way things are its just not in the cards to replace every 6-8 mos. Lately I have just been running the snot out of the super. What is the straw that breaks the camels back and makes you guys buy moa's or completely newer componets or new rigs. |

My TLT only breaks when I flog on it, or don't maintain it (i.e. cross pins on the CVDs come out, servo EPAs not set properly, etc).

I am still running a set of axles and drivetrain that I purchased in 2005....I only recently had to upgrade a few things on them.

Breaking is part of the hobby. So is upgrading, thats what keeps it interesting. Some will change rigs to keep things fresh, some will do it to stay competitive, some will do it for the fun of the build, some are just crazy. |

I started in July 08 and have built probably 10 different chassis on 4 different axles trying to find what i like. Now that its what i like i just do maintinence and tuning. Tires, Shocks, Foams etc change all the time.

I have only had like 3 complete failures of components. A wheel, a servo gear, and a driveshaft. I tear down parts of the truck between runs to check things out, tiinker, or make adjustments. I think knowing the condition of things between each outing keeps you from breaking stuff as much. That and not flogging your stuff |

I just drive my rigs in a circle and never have an issue.

Driving style plays a big part in how often you break. And with some upgrades, going cheap will only lead to more problems. If you are breaking ball ends, upgrade your links and use Revo ball ends. Don't go cheap on your servos or electronics either.

| You mean no issues other than strange tire wear and extreme boredom, right? Personally, I generally only upgrade when something breaks. I'm exceptionally hard on my rig, so its always in some state of flux. I'm either building it stouter, or buying something that I can't build that is stronger or better suited to how I roll (pun intended). The 2.2 that I'll be starting on shortly will have some upgrades done right away, but that is more of a pre-emptive strike on known weakpoints. Once those are done, it'll get hammered untill something else goes bye-bye. Last edited by Duuuuuuuude; 04-09-2009 at 07:32 PM. |

I build a new rig as soon as the most recently built one gets a scratch on it. I build all my rigs to last...I over engineer and over build everything. |

Duuuuuuuude, Exactly. I do it for the build and to try new chassis to see wat suits my driving style. You wont know anything til you try and test. |

I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to go through it and replace all the bearings, other than that there aren't too many wear items. Not to mention the stock axial bearings aren't all that great, the way they wear out and get all sloppy in the knuckles kinda irks me.

| Ding, ding, ding!!!! That's exactly it for me. I love building and modifying, that's why I got started in this in the first place. It hasn't always benefited me (competitions) to build new rigs as much as I do, but I can't help it. |

I swapped the bearings, and clean everything up a couple of times a year. Otherwise I dont usually even clean my car in between comps and it keeps on running. But I do carry lots of spare parts.
