| Started an Indoor Course
Well I started to make an indoor course with my son. We live in an upstairs apartment and though we have a few rocks the weight was going to be an issue. So I got this idea from a thread on here. Using crates and cardboard. Along with plaster cloth and dental plaster. His room where its going to take up almost half lol. A few rocks on his dresser. Cardboard boxes. Plaster cloth. Thats what we have so far. I'll update as we build. Last edited by guitarbob; 05-06-2009 at 12:27 PM. |

Used insta-pack foam packing material makes KILLER rocks, just gotta coat it with expanding foam then burlap mache... cheap and somewhat lite... all the same, looks good. Some day i will finish mine... |

Burlap mache is like paper mache, but you use burlap instead of paper and a mixture of mortar and tile grout instead of starch. If you search on this forum for "faux rocks" I think you will find the exact recipe for it. Expanding foam is commonly referred to as Great Stuff. Lowes or Home dePOT sells it. Good luck... | |

Here's an update of our rock course. Cutting crates to make hills. Also to use for V-notch side hills. Also found that just putting the cardboard in a shopping bag works better than trying to tape boxes to the top of the crates. All u have to do is shape the bag into a rock type shape. Got ten with first layer of plaster cloth done and hope to get the dental plaster in the mail tomorrow. |

Thanks for the comments guys. The way I look at it is that we're not just building a crawler course... we're building memories. |

My kid seems to be disinterested in every hobby I have. Planes, cars, crawlers, helicopters....I am wondering how to get him motivated like you guys, short of forcing him? He would rather read all day then do anything at all....It's not a bad thing I guess, especially in the long run. He will make lot's of cash to buy dad some toys on my B-day...LOL. Revenge of the nerds is eminent... Good work guys. JB |
