Personally that is the biggest I can recall seeing in 48 pitch - 90 tooth. Bigger than that and you'll have clearance issues with a lot of transmissions. I ran a 90t spur on an AX-10 tranny for a while, and it just barely cleared the inboard yoke of the driveshaft enough to spin. It still rubbed the 2 highest spots on the yoke as it spun, but it did work... |

Why do you need such a large spur? Are you not able to up your pinion to compensate for spur count? Seems like it is an unnecessary idea unless you have a reason. With the DNA motor plate I could run a 22 pinion if I wanted.

I run a 96 tooth 48 pitch spur gear from Robinson Racing. It can be ordered direct from Tower Hobbies or possibly your local hobby store. I am using it on an Axial trans with Crawler Design Works 6mm extended front output shaft. That is the only way the spur gear will fit. I am running a Holmes Crawler Master 1000KV brushless out runner which is why I geared so low. I use a 18 tooth pinion and 3S lipo. It is extremely smooth, has no cogging, good wheel speed, and insane torque. A sensorless brushless outrunner will never be smooth like a brushed motor, but with this gearing and voltage combo it has worked well for both my son and I in our 2.2 comp rigs for nearly a year. No motor maintainence is also very nice.

well what i have is a summit tranny with a custom motor plate to set the motor on the side of the tranny , like a ax-10 tranny. problem is the the tranny is wide, and at the moment im running a 90t spur and the smallest pinon is 25t. switching to a 32pitch gear set is not a problem. i can go about 1/2" inch bigger in dia. than a 90t before i hit the drive shaft thanks |
