This is just what I needed to know. I thought I had bit off more than I could chew with this build but I think I can finally move fwd with since I know how to measure for the links. Thanks |

Now how do you properly add length for bent links? Or is it trial and error? Justin |

If you bend a 5" link 30 degrees 1" from the end, the link will now measure 4 7/8" long. Different lengths, angles and even just a few degrees can make a big difference. It can be a trial and error thing at first. A quick easy way to see what happens to the link with different lengths, angles and degrees is to draw them up with a CAD program....if you or someone you know has access to that. A cheap way to "test fit" is get a fist full of cheap all thread from the hardware store. Make a note of all the different bends you make for future reference. | |

Try using lengths of solder, the right size will press fit into your rod ends and you can bend and cut it however you like until it works for you. Then just copy the dimensions and bends onto your preferred link material.

For my bent links I cut them a little long, then just measure the distance from the center of each end with a set of calipers and trim to the correct length - as was test fitted in a wheelbase jig with straight links. Then I install rod ends and double check the length eye to eye with calipers.
