Default Hand Bros CMS Hitting Frame

I was screwing around with my SCX10 roller just now and noticed that I wasn't getting full throw from the steering of the Hand Bros CMS. Flipped it over and noticed the servo horn hitting the frame mount. Anyone else have this issue? Might be the servo horn I'm using (stock axial).

Also, I had to add a 5mm spacer between the tie rod and drag link to get the drag link and pan hard to line up. I was thinking of getting some VP High steer arms to make it look a little better.

I put some spacers between my servo and the mounts to lower it.

You could use a button head in your case, might clear it.

It does seem to need a bit of set up, or the perfect servo horn.

Still sweet, and still kicks ass.

DUH! Didn't even think of that.

Don't get me wrong, I love this set up, totally kicks ass, but didn't want to wear a grove into the aluminum mount.

A button head screw on the servo arm looks like it would help clear

I'm using the "blue" servo horn that comes with the 5645 Hitec and it isn't even close to the frame rail. I do however have a flat head screw coming in from the bottom through the rod end up into the servo horn (it threads directly into the servo horn and doesn't need a nut on the other face). Mine pivots all the way around till the servo horn contacts the "ramp" of the servo mount where the track bar attaches.

John, I take it by "blue" you mean aluminum right? I need to invest in a better servo and horn, I know that.

A full pic of the front of the truck would help to see the angles and what not.

Angles are fine, no issues there, just the stupid horn hitting the frame. Going to use some small spacers to drop the servo down and use a smaller spacer between the drag links and the tie-rod.

I'm starting to think some servos mount farther out than others but maybe it's just different servo horns.

I'm using a hitec 5645 on mine with a dyamite aluminum horn and I have plenty of room between the horn and the frame. I was even able to fit a thin hpi nut on the top of the screw.

Yeah, it's the blue aluminum one that comes with the 5645 which is also the servo that's on it. Using the aluminum horn, you can get rid of the nut since you can screw right into the horn.

Actually from what I can tell, the nut is hitting the frame/servo mount where the frame angles upward beginning into the curve above the axle. If this is the case, a shorter horn on the servo will help. If the horn were longer it would only make the problem worse.

as stated above it looks like an aluminum horn and buttonhead screw should solve your issues

Yep, but I meant further away from the case of the servo.

Spacers between the servo ears and servo mounts are the easiest.
