| would this 2 speed gearbox be useful to us?
Found this 2 spead gearbox on ebay and was wondering if it would useful for those who want a low crawling gearing and still be able to have some wheel spin. 2 speed gearbox auction The gearbox changes gears once the motor reaches a certain rpm. The high gear is 1:1 and low is 1:1.6 |

Looked pretty cool until I saw this: *Reverse will be disabled when gear box is applied That rules it out for sure! |

Doesn't that mean there wouldn't be any brakes either? I think it's a centrifical(SP) design.

I like goodsgood's article. " It provides racers with more steering control over sharp corner as well as the necessary speed for straight tracks." Don't they mean "disables breaks to put all traction into steering"? Thats still a hella cool little gearbox. As long as the vehicle could oversteer you could stop. |

To me it looks like it would still work in reverse - it just wouldn't shift gears in reverse.... Is that right or wrong???? This looks great for a basher to me. gear it low for crawling and then you get some more top speed for bashing. |

Oh never mind..... I see how it works now. there is a one way bearing on the secondary shaft, so yes reverse is totaly disabled.....

They're basically applying the principles behind a Nitro tranny to this. The only difference is that they're using a 3 shoe nitro clutch/clutchbell to engage 2nd gear instead of the finger type clutches found in most 2-speed trannies. As mentioned earlier, there's a one-way bearing to deal with, as well as actually getting 2nd to engage...takes centrifugal force...which means high RPMs. If reverse is disabled, so is the braking ability. You'd have to have an extra servo on a "Y" harness with the ESC to apply brakes somewhere in the driveline. Anyone else notice how 3 of those gears look like they came from the E-Maxx tranny? Last edited by JasonInAugusta; 12-14-2005 at 11:59 AM. |

Yeah, I saw those a little while ago an eBay. I nearly ordered a couple, but then I saw that reverse was disabled.
