Default El Cheapo ABS Chassis - Complete

Well you guys guessed right, I got bored and had one too many Guiness'.

Total invested $6.50: ABS $2, Rods and all thread $4.50.

I decided to go with a shockless design, and to limit axle wrap I made the links their own limiters. When too much travel is reached the links will intersect and pull on each other. I know it sounds kooky but it works.

The vehicle has a lower stance than how I had it last so it get hung up on a few things the other didn't but it can also crawl over a lot more stuff a heck of a lot easier.

Wheelbase is sitting at about 11.5".

Under pan clearance is started at about three stock tires high. But ended up more like 2 - 2.5" First photo is mock up next one is actual.

Mock up flex

Actual Flex

Finished Chassis

Some thoughts on bodies

Yup, I know it isn't milled. Yup I know it's flexy, Yup I know it looks ghetto,

But did I have fun making it: Yup!

Damn I need more Guiness.

Hahahahaha.

I've been called a lot of things but never redneckish.
I'll take that as a compliment.

Zip ties are the the most useful things in an RC'ers toolbox. Hehehehe.

Does it over articulate? Might want to do something to dampen the suspension.

Thanks dude.

Some Whiskey and Rye? Shudder to think what I'd do to my touring car If I was ripped on that stuff?

...Come to think of it... I do have some Nylint stockers lying around...... 55mph touring car running Mickey Thompsons, does have kind of a wicked ring to it, dont' it????

Btw: Yup that is the 1/6th. I had the original chassis about two weeks and broke a knuckle. Got that replacement chassis about 4 weeks ago, did a little work to the shocks and that's it. I've been having so much fun with the 1:18th, that I really haven't bothered with the big one.

Actually, it doesn't. The articulation on this one is much less than the way I had it with the stock tub. I crossed the links very close to each other. When it starts to over articulate the higher side of the axle will pull the opposite side up with it. There is rarely any droop, which is one of the reasons it get's hung up on some stuff that the tub didn't.

It's kooky the way I set it up but it works for ****s and giggles. Prolly not up to comp level, but I had it crawling some pretty hairy shtuff on my "rock garden" and it didn't even flinch.

Knowing me, and how quickly I get bored, I probably will find a way to mount some shocks on it and see if I notice any difference. I'll have to set up some alternate link locations for droop so the shocks have something to do though.

Hmmm.... Maybe I should use my plate chassis on this rig...
