Default Spring in steering gears

My jeep stopped turning so I took off the front cover on the steering gears. I ixed the problem but the spring shot out. I found the spring but do not know where it goes. Can someone explain or show a picture of where the spring goes? Thanks.

You spread the 2 ends apart and put it on the main gear, like shown with the red line. Following JIA's advice I put the spring on the inside of the main gear so it won't pop off when I take the cover off. You can see it there in my pic. So far so good.
