| Kyosho Blizzard DX Dual Motor/ESC with 380 motors
I have a vintage Kyosho Blizzard DX that has a dual 380 motor setup. The current setup uses mechanical speed controllers and I am looking to do an upgrade of sorts. I would like to do this on somewhat of a budget. Basically my questions are: Do I stay brushed or go brushless? Remember it's a snowcat, not looking for speed, but more torque. Also since I have a 4 channel Futaba stick radio, I'm leaning towards two ESC's, that way each track is controlled indepently. Let's get some thoughts or opinions.

what about two outrunners? they provide great torque over in runners, you could do dual aelion esc's, I think they are around 25 a piece shipped for 35amps a piece

Nothing about 380 brushless. A Mamba 25 is/was enough to run dual 380 Durtrax and 390 Banebot, brushed motors on my Cliff Climber. |

I would use brushed motors and a special ESC, like dimension engineering 2x10A esc. There is a built in mixer or you can control each motor independently. | |

Try the Novak mongooses Great torque and speed, low end res is awsome.93.00 each at tower including esc which also works in brushed mode.

It's going to be worth more if you leave it original. Having said that, one regular ESC will replace the mechanical Kyosho one. Continue to use the mechanical splitter for steering and one ESC for power. I have one of my DX's setup this way. It works fine. Two ESC's would probably not go exactly the same speed, causing a curve. (remember one motor is running in reverse and will be weaker) Are you running this in high range or low? I run in high and never have power issues. |

I think we are going back and forth via email on this I would second the outrunner notion. We just need to figure out what the pinion pitch is. If you are going for budget, then two brushed motors and some inexpensive ESCs will be the best bet. At any rate upgrading to an ESC will help big time. |

I'm really not concerned what it is worth. This is a hobby, not an investment. Im trying to do this cheaply guys, so I have to rule out the Novak Mongoose that is only $93.00 at Tower LOL......What about running two eZRun 25A with some cheapo brushless motors off eBay. Or what about some of those cheapo esc's you see for boats and heli's on eBay?

the EZrun's combined with a few 2215 or longer outrunners would be my suggestion. If you could find some heli outrunners with 1/8" shaft you would be likely to find pinions that work too.

Grasshopper..... Here is what people don't understand, it is only worth that amount if there is somone out there willing to pay that much for it. It's not like the thing is some sort of precious metal that carries an intrinsic value. People always say blah blah blah those Blizzards are worth so much, yet when ever you see one for sale, they always sell between $300-$500. So if you know someone that is going to pay $1000.00 for one, tell them to email me and they can have it. I'll just go buy another for a few hundred bucks. They aren't as hard to come by as people make it out to be. You just need to know where to look an I guess I know where to look.
