Qt. on hydraulics. wanting to run rams on my axles for steering. if I run a ram that has a inside diameter of 10mm x 85mm . If I want the ram on the axle to push more power to. will I have to run a smaller dia. cylinder with a longer stroke,or just the opposite bigger bore with a shorter through. If you can't tell by now I'm not all that familiar with how hydraulics work. Thanks for your reply and info on this one.

Larger diameter with a shorter stroke if you are not increasing your pressure.

the actuator cylinder needs a small diameter, long stroke cylinder. The steering cylinder should be larger diameter with just enough stroke to meet your needs. ratio of piston areas is approximate mechanical advantage. Too much mechanical advantage and the actuator cylinder will need to be unrealistically long to achieve full steering throw. |
