On the shocks i see many comp crawlers have eliminated their springs and i was thinking to my self whats the use? if the shocks need to extend let them extend and reach what they need to reach but if not leave them be

Sounds like you're pondering a "Droop" suspension setup. Do some SEARCHing and you will find lots of discussions on the subject. Basically a drooped rig will sidehill better due to the lower c.o.g. but the loss of belly clearance can be a hinderance. Really depends on your driving style and the terrain you crawl on.

On a side note, I can't recall the last time we saw anybody in the top 5 (or 10) at major comps running droop.

Do some searching to get some ideas, play around with your truck and see if it's for you.

Some guys with regularly sprung setups (not droop) have also replaced their outer springs with smaller springs on the inside to give more steering clearance. With the springs on the inside, your front tires can't rub them, so you can have a tighter turning radius than with outer springs. If the tires still rub the shock, at least it's a smooth surface.
