| Mounting Camera on Rig
Hey all! I know some of you mount GoPro or similar cameras to your rigs, and for you I have a question! Are you mounting your cameras directly to the frame? I have a ContourHD camera, and I have made a couple of short videos, testing out how it works. My camera is mounted on the drivers side of the body, and I have pretty soft springs so the camera really weighs the rig down to that side, and I am getting a lot of vibration from spinning the tires on rocks, or when I go with any speed on dirt. Like I said, I mounted the camera to the body for the time being, and I think that is adding to the vibration issue. I thought about mounting it inside the body, and cutting a hole in the windshield but I am not sure on that yet. Looking for ideas! Can I see some pics of cameras mounted on your rig? Heres a few of mine: |

I use the GoPro and I made a couple different mounts for it. Sadly, with the weight of the cameras you are going to have issues no mater where you mount it. I have used it on my Super class truck and it is a bit better, mind you it is a huge super truck so there is lots of options. No mater where I have tried to mount it, the weight throws off the balance of the truck. I only mount mine when I want to make a short video, comping with the camer on is NOT an option for me. I have mounted it in my Slash inside the body with a hole in the windsheild with a bit better success.

Here is what I did with my scale rig that had the camera controlled off of a servo. Quote:

Nice work Harley! I am not into comps, so that isn't really an issue for me, all my driving is just for fun! So I don't mind the weight bais being thrown off that much, it just makes some obsticles harder than they should be. I was thinking of making a removable mount that would mount the camera remotely from the rig and point it back towards the rig, but I fear that will throw the weight off too much. Maybe someday. Anyone else use the Contour like me? lol |
