Default General Waterproofing

I've read many threads about waterproofing various electronics, servos, etc. But what about the car/chassis in general???? What does water/mud do to components like diffs/axles/bearings/etc. Any special care, maintenance required? Even the chassis itself?

When running through water and mud you need to check your axles and diffs regularly. I actually loaded my SCX axles up with grease to help keep debris and water out and it has worked well. You will also want to keep an eye on the shafts and transmission. One of the biggest issues is also wear on the bearings from debris and corrosion. Applying a layer of grease around them is helpful too.

Is the concern - parts rusting from the water, or crap getting into the components and actually breaking them? I don't live near the coast so fast corrosion from the salt air/water shouldn't be a problem.

stainless steel hardware, and defnitly keep an eye on bearings and be ready to replace the ones in the knuckles regularly if you dont put some wd-40 on them or a type of dry lube so it doesnt attract dirt an wear them faster

Don't go for 3 years before opening them up. These had never been opened since being assembled in Oct/Nov 2007.
