Default How do you annodize your own aluminum?

Hey RCcrawlers!

ive got a question, but heres the story..

Im planning to Deannodize my Aluminum parts since they dont look well with my new body, and i already know how to deannodize.. but the question is, How do i annodize a part to a color i want?

Lets say:

i have a blue part right now --->Deannodize---> Silver/aluminum natural color.

then

Silver/aluminum natural color---> Annodize ---> Neon Yellow, or Green etc..

is it even possible? if it is, how can i annodize then?

you would need to then take the part to an anodizing shop and have them anodize it. its not a DIY thing, it takes special chemicals and knowledge, and isnt something you can get into for a few parts.

BTW annodizing costs soo much.. not worth my money since its just the casters on my slash..

might as well deannodize them and just let them be!

If you go to a shop it wont really be that expensive...Maybe $25 because those guys love cash and they will just throw it in with other parts they are doing.

I got a good shop in redwood city if you are interested.

Mehh I would like get them anodized, but $25 is alittle step, but I'll think about it..

It's because I keep having to change bodies since they crack. Then gotta have a new paint job, so it looks fresh.. Mehh I guessbill stick with blue for Now and deannodize it to aluminum.. Cuz aluminums natural color might be sweet on all bodies.. Might give it a "bling"

Btw for future reference, do you mind PMing your shop in redwood city?

this place has everything you need.

unless your planning to make a hobby out if it, its far cheaper and easier to got an ano shop and have them do it, act poor and say its just rc stuff, you may get a deal.

You could always paint it. I use Metalcast paint to "re-ano" parts I need in a different color. I sprayed these brakes, seat clamp and this frame and fork.

I know, the frame isn't aluminum but the color is really nice. Just spray light coats and hit 'em with clear after. Oh yea, helps to use their paint adhesion pre-spray.
A nice cheap way to "re-ano" your parts.

Sounds like it was a rad bike. I bet you wish you still had it. If you do, send it to me. The Skyway is a bike I bought back in '83.

And another tip, the more smooth/polished the surface to be painted is,the nicer the paint will be.

oh thanks!

hmm i might just paint it without the clear coating..

ohh for my crawler i might just skip sanding and just go into paint, then let it dry, no need for a clear coating.. that way, it'll look like i gave it some crawling ABUSE!! MUAHAHAHA
well that is, after i get some crawling lines.

A little out there, but I remember "Hot Rod" magazine doing a write up on home anodizing. They were doing it in one of those foil bake pans, for CHEEP! They did all the parts to a Holley carb for like $12 or something like that. Seems to me, they got all the stuff they needed at the grocery store too. Might be worth a search.

Same goes for ano. If it is polished it will be really glossy, if it is rough it will be matte.
