| anyone looked at an ice crawler?
with winter approaching i was wondering if people have tried ice crawling, if that is even such a thing. i can envision courses using snow drifts sculpted then coated with water to ice it up. for the crawler i'm thinking metal lugs in the tires. cold weather could be tough on vehicles, which could add to the challenge. |

When I was younger, I used to take the flat push pins, and push 10-15 of them through a rubber band so that the points were out then just strech them over the tires. When the snow was hard and crusty or on a ice pond, that thing would corner like it was on rails! I plan on studding a set of tires for winter |

I searched and found out how to make chains for this winter. I like the rubber band idea. i wonder what the best snow tire is?

It would be time to break out the disposable handwarmers, and/or nimh stick packs.. Lipo's would choke and die in those temps.. Otherwise, sounds like a friggin blast, other then its all cold and crap.. I hate winter.. I'd move to Florida but its to damn flat.. Maybe Mexico.. ~Kev |

I just Googled Rc chains and between the different sites I am going to make a set. eBay had a couple sets for 2.2 tires they sold for about 8.00 for the set. The only thing Im going to do different is put some kind of rubber band like real chains have to keep them snug. Is that Dracut Mass you live in? |

why not use a plier type leather punch and put a bunch of holes in a set of tires for say 3-12mm nuts and bolts with red loc-tight to keep them in the tire just like true 1:1 ice raceing car/truck tires....every body has a set of worn down tires some where in there stash hmmm i'm gonna do up a set of sc10 tires for winter fun........bob .... |

harley, looks like you've had some experience in this area. have you hear of crawling on ice courses? i see your picks with snow on the course which looks like a challenge. putting studs through the tires like ice racing could be an option but like others have said crawling is a slower speed art and without weight or using speed to get the spikes to dig into the ice i'm curious whether or not this will work. right now i'm thinking of taking my original venom creeper tires and working something up for the ice. if others try something on their rigs feel free to post it up. |

Typically I wait for Toyofast to post his annual winter thread before I think winter time action. He's over there in the Pacific Northnerd side of the country where they get the snow first. Then a few talk about chains and screws, and a few talk about Imex Red Rock tires and Proline Mashers.
