well i had read a lot about this before i did it on my truck, and everyone who used old axles to add a second reduction used the black layer. but i didnt like how thick it was and some people cut a hole in the side of the axle. so what i did was use another yellow layer (final layer) and instead of having just that top plate with the tabs on it, i used the top gear from the white layer (first layer) and i double drilled it to fit on the yellow layer. then after i got it all working i stuck it in right before the black layer. its kind of confusin, but it works great and gives you a 5:1 reduction. after that i took a hobby knife and set it on a burner and cut out the motor mounts and the screw post. then i used a dremel with a round ended cutting bit and went to clearanceing out the grill thing. on the front axle you kinda have to grind into the steering motor, or while you are at it you could get some aluminum angle stock and make a servo bracket for the steering. http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=21010.0 |
