Default Shock placement

Is it better to install crawler shocks upside own or right side up and why. I have a set of duratrax evader shocks and was wondering which way would be best.

I think the conventional wisdom on the subject is to mount them body side down, this moves the bulk of the shock weight lower, thus lowering the center of gravity.

It also depends on your setup. I cant run my front shocks body side down because my servo horn would hit the body. It barely clears the shaft as it is!

Default Flip or not?

Yes it is to lower your COG. It should work well both ways. Mine are all upright because i let my tires just touch the shock springs at full lock.

body up for me, the little air in the shock body will stay at the top thus letting the pistion almost constaly be in the oil always having dapening power, and if they are upside down the piston is in the air thus giving a very incosistant feel to the suspension/ rig or in a case i had with my ax-10 it had lots of wheel hop when mounted upside down, IMO the amount it effects the COG is not worth it

What is the effect of mounting the shocks vertically or laying down.

Good point, never really gave any thought to the small amount of air in there.

if you fill the shocks 100% that shouldnt affect it too much or at all
