| Can MIP's be shortened ?
Before you get on my case about the "Search Button" I have been reading posts about MIP since 8:00 this morning and its now 11:12 am. (hard day at work,,, nobody else is in ) I can not find what I am looking for. If I buy a set of regular MIP drive shafts, can I just cut some length off one to accommodate my HR dig ? I only ask because all my usual shopping places are out of stock on the set made for a DIG and the regular ones are cheaper anyway. Just $42.99 compared to $53 for the short set. Also, if anyone else has MIP's with a HR Dig... do you have any clearance issues with the Dig shifter sliding shaft coupler ? Thanks |

from what ive been told you can cut them down with a grinder and cut off disk, i have never seen any cut before but im pretty sure it wouldnt be any different then cutting down the stock plastic ones

Keep in mind the splines on the inside of the female half don't go the whole length of the shaft, so you can't take too much off or the male half will fall in and the splines don't catch.

KevMc is right, you have to be careful about the length. I have done it and had no problems, you just have to be sure not to take any more off than absolutely necessary.

i have cut and welded a few. i had to make one 70mm total! you can take the female one and cut it at the bottom then flip it so the spline gap is where they slide together, then you can cut the gap off. they are not to hard to do. you just have to make sure you dont weld it with the cvd part on. on some i have had to go in to the cup part and grind it out.

Thanks for the quick replies fellas. I might order a set and try the cut. If not I can swap some parts from my Slash 4x4's MIP axles. I just thought of those about 10 minutes ago. I know I tried them way back to see if they fit but were too short.. This was way before I got a dig. I simply forgot about them being useful for this purpose. |

I found that out after cutting Then used the splined part and welded it back to the shaft. Then grinded down the weld and never broke. | |

If you don't have to have mip shafts, junfac makes a dig shaft for about $16

-Sidenote. Junfac shafts are only good on paper. Will break under some stress. |

junfac is a great option. I have beat the crap out of mine for over a year and they just keep asking for more. MIP's are just plain BEEF tho, so with that said get what ever you feel you need both can be shortened with out to much trouble.
