Default Making a winch

what do I need to make a winch I only have 3ch's and all of them are used. could I make a on and off swhich for both the winch and rear steer. and I need to know what to get for the winch

You could use an on/off switch and any 4-6 volt power source. All you need is a servo, and you must modify it in this manner:

You'll also have to make some kind of spool for the end of the servo to wrap the string around. I'd suggest using a couple round servo horns and some screws. (It can be done lots of ways.)

I believe sail winches, like the one you posted, only turn 2-4 turns total. You also might want a larger drum than that, considering how much string you usually need to reach a decent winching point...

there was a thread called winches i think it got deleted

there was a link to a store selling a winch and chains and hooks and stuff for like 137$ anyone remember that link?

What I've always wondered, is how much torque in a servo would it require to lift a 9~ pound clod up off the ground?
