Ive been making some links out of some 4mm threaded rod and I wanted to know what size (ID) sleeves to use. Ive looked around but there isnt many people using 4mm rod.

4mm rod is practically the same OD as 8-32, which is what a lot of people use for custom links. I used 7/32" aluminum tubing to sleeve my uppers. For my lowers, I drilled out some 5/16" delrin rod - I think 3/16" or 5/32" is the smallest ID you can use. |

4mm= 0.157", 8-32 nominal diameter= 0.164". Here is what most people use for 8-32 links http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant...=71&top_cat=60 or stainless is getting popular these days also http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant...=312&top_cat=1 You might find some metric sizes around too, but this is what is readily available around here. |

For 4mm threaded, I drill out material at 5/32" I also use 8-32 threaded thru the same 5/32" I typically sleeve with Delrin. For the 4mm it slides thru with little to no slop. But with the 8-32 I drive the threaded thru the delrin. 4mm for uppers. 8-32 for steering and lowers. Or I make whatever the customer asks for. |
