| Battery question, stupid but maybe original.
I have read that some have run 14.4V in their nylint without damage. I have a few questions. Can anyone confirm that 14.4V is safe? And if so, on to my next question. I have 2 7.2V stick packs, which I could wire for 14.4V. I was planning on attacking each one to an axle, greatly reducing the COG. The other question I have is, will mixing mAh numbers work? One pack is 2000 and one is 3600. I'm thinking it would just last as long as if I had 2 2000 packs. But to be safe I figured I'd ask on here cause I'm certian there's many people on here that know more than I do. Especially when I know next to nothing. Thanks for any help.

what you may have heard was the 12 volt battery when fully charged, provides up to 14.4 volts. That said two fully charged 7.2 volt batteries is going to put you in the neighborhood of 16-17 volts when fully charged. I am going to guess the nylint electronics wont like that. Look around for custom 10 cell packs or there are a few posts on how to build 2 packs (for charging) that combine into one 12 volt pack for running. |

No, one instance I saw, they used 2 1:18 nylint 7.2 packs and said it lasted 10 minutes, haha. No word on if they ran it more than once or any damage. I see what you're saying though. Was looking to use what I had but 16-17 is really high. Just had another thought, I might have a couple of 6V packs from old "toys" like tyco or whatever. They would probably charge in the same 12V range. Still curious about differing mAh ratings, would it make a difference? Only thing I know is on a 1:1 rig you usually need an isolator between batteries to keep one from draining the other. Last edited by Jamus; 05-25-2006 at 01:55 PM. |

Just take one of your 6 cell packs and make it a four cell. Then you can run a 6 and a 4 cell to get 10 cells total with 12 V. Plus most chargers will charge 4-7 cells so you can still charge each one seperatly. Most chargers don't charge 10 cells though, so keep the two packs seperated and just wire them together on the rig.

I don't have a hobby grade charger, which matches my non hobby grade crawler. If I tore them apart and wired them into one 12V pack would the stock nylint charger work with it?

If the electrics will take a 12 volt wet cell, they will probably take 12 cell nimh- at least for a while. 10 cells would be safer. You do not want to mix capacities though. The weaker pack can and will go up in smoke when it runs out of juice first. Buy two new packs of the same type, discharge them slow when you buy them, and then use them together as one pack. It will last much longer that way. Basically you would be buying a 10 or 12 cell saddle pack with half mounted on each axle. The rig would perform much better. edit: your stock nylint charger should NOT charge any battery chemistry except a 4 cell lead acid. Other types can be ruined or caught on fire. Fire is very bad, thanks for the input. Since I don't know much maybe I better copy what others have done. I was really liking the idea of mounting batteries on the axles.

once you pony up for a hobby grade charger, using 10 cells on the axles would work very well. Check towerhobbies for very inexpensive nimh chargers and batteries.

Just get your self a F&F batt. They are $18 with a charger. Mount it and the front axle like I did and you'll be good. Alot cheaper, eaisier, and now batt mods required. |

Well great, I did find one today. It looked like it was dropped on the floor of the warehouse and scooted around a bit. If it charges and runs, I'm fine with it. I suspect it wont and I'll have to return it. So its good news that they're still available and for cheaper than the $18 I paid at walmart. Not returning it for $6 though, only if it doesn't work. Oh, and assuming it charges, I'll be mounting it like yours wrecker. |

It's a 12V battery and charger that you may find at Walmart. Found mine in the powerwheels stuff. It's smaller and lighter than the stock Nylint battery. The package is the sealed plastic type with green cardboard and says 12 volt really big on the front. $17.96, shouldn't be hard to miss unless they don't have any. Mine held a charge by the way so I'm good to go. |

This is the package: Jamus - You won't be disapointed with mounting the batt on the front axle, I love mine on there. |
