| If you had to choose only one...
Simple.... If you had to choose to either compete or scale which would it be? Edit: Not scale comps, just out with friends having fun. Last edited by Rockpiledriver; 01-13-2012 at 03:28 PM. |

| Re: If you had to choose only one... I couldn't agree more. And 2 years ago my answer would be different also. That's why I only listed one or the other. In my area there are often scale get togethers on the same day as comps. My question is which would you rather do if it was just for the fun of it. Is it more fun to run a comp rig through a set course with judges, or is it more fun to hang out in a casual atmosphere and scale. |

The difference people explain to me is that they get about 15 to 20 minutes of run time in a 8 hour day competing, compared to multiple hours of scaling out in the woods having fun, only stopping to swap batteries. I stopped autocrossing once the revelation hit me that I'm standing around for 10 hours a day to run for hopefully 8 minutes on course. That absolutely doesn't make sense in the spirit of having as much fun as you can while doing what you enjoy. And yes, hanging out with friends between runs is fun, but what is even more fun is driving around and hanging out with friends at the same time.

I voted scale, I still like my comp rig and I still enjoy going to competitions but I just have more fun with scale. I think, I just like the tinkering aspect of it with the scale rigs more |

Lets face it, to be at the top of a game competing in anything takes a ton of work, and usually a ton of money and time as well. When I started competing things were very different than today. For many people that is what they are after, it was for me anyway. I never really got into scale at all back then. As time went on, competing lost much of the "fun' aspect for many reasons, least of which being my driving skills. I was never a national champion caliber driver, but I could hold my own. It was that the fun aspect became few and far between for me. The cost, effort, and time just to get to a comp only to drive, literally for a few minutes outweighed the thrill of doing well. I quit crawling pretty much altogether. Now I am having a blast with the scalers and the FUN is back for me. I no longer have any interest at all in competing. Funny how things change. |

i dont compete and never will.. if i had to pick one it would be scale, i have a honcho and an ax10.. my friends have ax10's.. a friend of mine has 15,000lbs of rock in his shop so we go there damn near every weekend and do a fun comp, with gates, points and scoring but at the end of the day its only for fun and to improve your driving. example we run at least 2 runs each so you can look back at the first run and compare it to the 2nd run and see where you fawked up. once you know where it is you can go back and practice on that section.. i like it because its very casual, we have a couple beers througho ut the day and just have fun and make fun of each other... usually 3 or 4 of us so its not too big of a crowd.. i'll number my friends for easy explaining. so friend number 1 and i used to work together and friend number 2 worked at a hobby shop, then eventually said see ya and is now working with friend number 1.. so we like to bug each other because we all now how to do the job.. |

And after the courses are run I play around on the rocks until all my batteries dump. Sometimes we'll even play follow the leader. I like chasing moa's. That's all it is at the end of EVERY DAY of a comp, be it casual or no.

Driving these RCs is simply fun to me. Being asked to chose between the two is like being asked to chose which I can live without, air or water. Last edited by JeremyH; 01-13-2012 at 07:24 PM.

I voted for comping, but ONLY because the minis have exploded in our area. I was really burned out with 2.2, and considered going to strictly scalers until I got a mini. Now the fun, camaraderie, and casual atmosphere is back and I love it. Scalers are a VERY close 2nd, though!
