| Front axle coupler fix
I found a way to make the front axle couplers bomb-proof(at least I think so). This was actually pretty simple so I wouldn't be suprised if it's been done before. I was breaking enough couplers to really want a permanent solution rather than to just keep replacing them. Here's what I did: I glued the pieces of my broken coupler back together(the one that conects the gearbox to the axle). Then I sanded down all the molded outcroppings so it was round. Then I sanded it until I could get a piece of copper pipe on it very snuggly. I had to use a vice to press it on. I did the same thing on the small end using a 1/4" thick drilled-out washer I had lying around. I used another one of these washers(drilled out to a different size) on the opposite side plastic connector. In order for it to fit back in place, I had to clearance the sides of the rectanglar part of the gearbox that locates it and the plastic gussets on the axle housing. If anyone is interested in pics I could take some. I don't think that these will ever come apart so when the weak link is passed to something else, I'll just have to replace or re-engineer that too . |

Here's some pictures of what I did. As you can see, I basically just sleeved the couplers. Here are the finished sleeved couplers installed. Here you can better see what I did. If you look at the gearbox, you can see where I clearanced it. I also clearanced the plastic gusseting on the axle housing under the metal part of the axle in the picture. If anyone has any questions, just ask. |

Is anyone interested in this? If not, I'll take the pics off the hosting site 'cause they take up space.

Tubing looks like 3/4'' ID. Not positive. It has held up fine for now and I really don't see how it could break.

I did the same thing back in Janurary... Unfortunently its not bombproof, The problem is you'll eventually just hollow out the inside of the plastic peice. Then you'll have to figure something else out. Here's a link to what I did back then. Never came apart after that, don't see how it could, but I did manage to strip out the inside of it. Busted my front axle, any idea how I can fix it? The ultimate fix, was to order a new axle from Nylint that came with the metal couplers instead. Nothings broken since. |

So how do you get the metal couplers off of nylint? and I also read on the other thread that someone else got the 4g chassis from them as well. how much is that? also I like geoffsfas10's little saying there.... T-maxx Basher... Broke again. I have had a t-maxx for about four years now and have had nothing! but problems with it.

well I knew it would be the same but my question was how do you get ahold of either the metal coupler and or the 4th gen chassis? do you just call nylint and ask or what? I am converting my t-maxx to an E-maxx actully. I'm going brushless. I put the novak ss system in my baja champ and that thing is super fast and really fun. Run times are better even.

awesome. i have no idea how to convert it to electric but im sure i can find it. i went out and bought a 4th gen chassis. you can see them by pushing down the tires and there are screws on the knuckles and the shocks are screwed in |
