| Bent rod ends for triangulated links
I have a small interference with my triangulated lower links using Traxxas 1942 rod ends. I think I can improve it with bent rod ends -- I've seen pictures of bent ends on triangulated links. Found these from RPPHobby: http://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/losa6011.htm But I didn't see any details. Can anyone familiar with these tell me if they are interchangeable with the traxxas RE's? Mine attach to the links with 3mm, long setscrews. Or are there other, better ends for triangulated links? |

the traxxas ends r 3mm and I think the losi ends r 4-40 so the traxxas ends r just a little too big. I'm not 100% sure on this

The pitch diameter of a 3mm is .10 inches The pitch diameter of a 4-40 is .096 inches Seems like they should fit the same hole.

Losi ball ends fit 4-40 bolts/screws, which is smaller than the 3mm that nearly everyone else uses, which includes Axial. IMO keep the straight rod ends and whip up some bent links. Its not hard to do. |

Bump to fish for more info. Am using Revo 5347 straight rod ends with 8-32 set screws. Anyone know of heavy duty bent rod ends taking 8-32? All the bent rod ends I've found are for the smaller 3mm/4-40 set screws. I found metal, but looking for plastic. |

Losi ends use a 5-40 screw threaded into the end, not a 4-40 screw as posted above a couple of times.

kyosho strr steering rod ends are 4mm and use a ball that accomadates 3mm studs, i use them on my upper links at the axle for clearence on articulation. http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...et-Type-ST-R-8 you have to use their pivot balls though as traxxas are too small |

Gotta give you guys credit for trying: My losi set screws measure .121" which is only three thousandths greater than 3mm. Long way from 8-32 which is .164". The kyosho are offset rod ends, not bent. The XR10, which I have, uses 3mm set screws. I was tempted to go ahead and buy the M4 aluminum, but while they take 4mm set screws, I think they also have a 4mm ball bore, so would not replace the Revo's. Of course I could get M3 aluminums to get the right balls, but now the set screws are too small for my links. Sigh. Maybe bent links are the best option. |

Why not use the losi rod ends in your first post? They will fit a 3mm screw just fine and then you can use a 4-40 screw to attach to the chassis.

| My current links use 8-32. I bought tubing to match that tap-size. But the chassis and axles are 3mm. So the Traxxas 3.3 rod end works great. A bent version of it would work even better. Hence the search.

You said youre using a 1942 rod end now which can take a 3mm screw fine, and then you say that you attach to the links with "3mm, long setscrews", but now youre running 8-32 set screws? Edit: Never mind. Got it now. This tread is confusing. LOL. You may want to edit your first post?

You can use the Losi bent rod ends. Use a Dremel tungsten carbide cutter #9911 to bore out the ball, so it will fit a 3mm bolt. Use a drill with the cutter. I use these with both 4mm set screws and 8-32 thread all. Last edited by corkysk8; 07-17-2011 at 08:04 PM. |

Corky, those Losi ends are as small as my originals. I'm trying to go bigger/beefier. Last edited by WAM; 07-17-2011 at 08:45 PM.

This is a pic of the Losi 17 degree bent rod ends next to a Revo rod end. The Losi rod end is as long as a Jato rod end, so you can cut to fit it. You can see in the second pic there is plenty of material to fit 4mm or 8-32 set screws once drilled. If you use these, use a set screw all the way to the bend for increase strength. |
