Default building a course.

Now that I am back in s.c. and have a place to build a crawl area I have started looking for building materials. I was going to dig up natural rock but the availability of it in my immediate area is slim to none.
Right down the road from me I have found some guys that have a large pile of broken up concrete that I could possibly some get for dirt cheap if not free. But my question is even with simular properties to rock would it be a good material to use? Or am I overlooking some detail that would make it suck?

you have a local rock quarry somewhere?
most of the time if you have a rock quarry fairly close its worth checking out because they will sell you rock by the truck load or by the Ton.
i have one here that a friend of mines family owns...i dont pay for rock there but anyone with a pickup they sell rock cheap. might check that out. a lot of times if you load it yourself if they will allow it you can get the type of rock you want and its cheaper yet since you are doing all of the work loading. last trip i made i got 2 loads 14 Ton in total and did it all in one day and loaded and unloaded by hand.

the concrete would work it just looks like crap. I have some pieces that I use on my yard pile for crawling and it works ok.

something to crawl on is better than nothing, you could always throw in some logs/limbs just to mix it up a little.

Champ. I'll look in to rock quarries around here. Thanks for the tip! I dont remember any in the area but I will look.

Lemon. I am planning to use wood too and what natural stone I find. I am working on a "log" suspension bridge with roughly 15"x2" sticks and twine among other interesting features.

i find that concrete is too easy to climb.. if you want some height then use the concrete for fill then put rocks top.. im lucky to have a gravel pit (base of a mountain) 300 yrs up the road from my house so i can go anytime and grab rock for free.. a friend has a spot by his house he gets his rock from and he has brought lots of it to my house....

i have a thread in the general discussion section of my course.. its been a while since i've updated it so it could be buried a little.

Here in northeast Louisiana there aint no rock except limestone rip rap that the local river service barges in. Better than nothing and $28 a ton. Local farmers sometimes acquire asphalt and concrete rubble from demolished roadbeds, etc. to use as erosion reinforcement in drainage canals. These storage sites form piles of various sizes until depleted. Some are suitable for RC crawling. My current favorite is a 70L x 40W x 15 foot high mountain of mostly asphalt and concrete. Both materials provide different degrees of available traction depending on how much dirt or gravel there is on the surface.

I like the idea of using the concrete as a base/filler. That would make it easier to build up the course especially the higher sections.

i like the tunnels thing and water, i have to keep my wife happy at the same time cuz she thinks im destroying our back yard by building this lol.. im going to try a big 6-7 foot tall waterfall with a stream flowing from it, make it look like a garden to keep her happy lol, then at the bottom of the stream do a big mud hole and alot of differnt obsitacls along the way,, i have a rather large area to use just need to get all the rocks/cement. and river stone to build it all,, i have a bobcat so that makes the work a little easyer
