The best way is to strap all of your lipo batts around your waste using duct tape. Also, make sure to hang some wire from the batts so it looks like a fuse. The most important thing to do is talk about how you hate America and wish it to burn

No really... put your rig / transmitter in some luggage and carry the batts on with you. Shouldn't be any problems.

I recently was pulled aside and questioned on a suitcase full of rc stuff. The batts have separate rules that can be found on your airlines web site. However I was told to tell the next jerk that I was a pro and traveling with my rig to practice while on vaca. It was a trip to china to so I was happy it worked. Now just to earn that pro title

Dude, I've met you, I can see why they stopped & questioned you.....

Basically, yes, carry the batteries WITH YOU onboard/carry-on, for piece of mind I would likely carry the rigs & radios with you as well. Parts, wheels, tools, etc. will probably be fine in checked bags.
