Default Wroncho Skid Plate Question

So, first off I've read a bunch about Wroncho's here and elsewhere.

I've ordered the necessary parts, but I was wondering...

Which is the better skid plate to use, SCX10 or Wraith?

I plan on using a SCX10 Deadbolt body.
I can make / bend my own links.
I am using AR60 axles stock length.
Using Wraith trans.

Does it matter? Or only for aesthetics?

I have both skids and can experiment, but if there's someone who has info I'd appreciate it.

when I built mine I tried both skids . I went with the wraith skid because to me it just looked better and was alot easier to make the links, all straight with 45 degree rod ends. I didnt like the funky bends with the SCX skid.

I also used the stock SCX frame rails and all the stock braces with spacers on both sides. now its one of the funnest trucks I own.

good luck

It's kind of a personal choice. When I did my wroncho, I went with the scx10 skid, but then I had to make some custom links to keep from binding on the driveshaft while flexing. When I built my 1/6 Jeep, I used a wraith skid between scx10 rails, but the skid had to be modified to fit between the rails, but the links were easy, no binding issues with the driveshaft. So either way, you'll have to do some custom work to make your wroncho drivable.

If your trying to keep an SCX10 wheelbase (12-12.5") I'd say use the SCX10 skid.
I haven't built a Wroncho but went the other way with a 1.9 Wraith, when I first did it I kept the Wraith skid in it & shortened the links to get a better scaled wheelbase.
The short links I found made it handle badly, didn't climb, didn't side hill, didn't do anything as good as my SCX10.
I later re-built it using an SCX10 skid & links & I like much more how it it works now, it's a great fun little crossover trail / U4RC rig now.

Thanks for the tips. If I don't like the link placement with the SCX skid, I'll go to the Wraith. Since the SCX skid is easier to start out with I'll give that a go at first.

With alittle grinding the wraith skid works great... check out Harley's wroncho build on you tube if you have not yet.

I used the scx10 trans plate and then went with a GCM racing front mount conversion kit which eliminated all of the issues with the links and driveline binding. Here is a link to the build thread, hope it helps.

The SMW skid would be great if you are basing it off an SCX platform.

That front driveshaft looks like you'd have a lot of binding at the universals, this is what I did:
