| Why no derlin or steel axle housings?
I know a few rigs come with steel housings, but I never see upgrade steel or derlin housings for axles with plastic housing. Aluminum gets caught on rocks a lot more so I stick with plastic ar60 housings with brass beef tubes. I know steel is heavier, but it slides a lot better over rocks. My stainless steel links and trailing arms glide over rocks smoother than stock plastic. I will admit, I do not know a heck of a lot about manufacturing things from derlin. Can it be cast, or does it get machined, or both for reduced machining but clean bearing seats etc. |

Boom racing makes ar60 axles in steel or something close to it there are a few others out there too

Yes, and they definitely aren't steel . They call them steel but they are some crappy cast pot metal. The only true steel axle housings ive seen made in quantity (there are some one-offs) were from GCM , metalheads, but I think they only do the alloy version these days.

Boom racing metal axle housings seem quite functional, good looking, priced well and greatly improve upon the OG SCX10 housings. Shady, no...they make some pretty nice beadlock wheels too. Delrin axle housings: soft, doesn't hold threads for attachment screws well. Steel: slides very well over rocks, strong, weight down low, higher machining cost because it wears out bits faster and requires slower cutting. Holds threaded screws very nicely. |

Xtra speed also makes pot metal axle housings similar to Boom racing, but a little bit cheaper.

Knock off company would also imply they are directly copying other vendors parts. I don't think they sell any knockoffs Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |
