| Lets see your indoor crawling spots?
With windchills dropping below zero today, I couldn't bring myself to crawl outside. I'm really thinking of piling up some rocks in the garage or basement. I need a FIX. So, anybody set up an indoor crawl spot I can drool over?? |

I have an indoor spot for my 1:18 nylint but the picture sucked so I didnt bother posting it. I gathered up alot of rocks in a spot under my pine where there was no snow and luckily it was my outdoor crawl so there was a huge pile of large stone. I loaded up the wagon and did my basement up. It is way too cold outside like 10 degrees here or so.. my setup is right near my coal burner too so its nice and toasty. Once I finish a custom tuber im working on I am going to gather a bunch of huge stone and setup something big. I have alot of room in my basement. its semifinished so its pretty nice to hang out and drink and crawl all weekend in the frigid pocono air. |

It is so bloody cold here, like 10 degrees this morning. I think it affects performance myself, my motor is not as powerful and run times are almost half what they are in warmer weather. Seems like to me anyway. I had a small area set up in my work warehouse, but I recently had to shuffle a bunch of product around and clean up for an inspection, so my indoor spot had to be disassembled. It was'nt real rocks anyway, just a couple pallets with some pieces of 2x4 and 4x4 piled inside for obstacles. Not much, but handy for testing. You guys have some cool indoor spots going. If I had basement space like that, I'd really get creative, too. I know all kinds of spots around here I could scavenge rocks from. Well, it would'nt nessecarily have to be rocks I guess. I remember a thread from months back where some guys were (I think) making chicken wire "forms" and coating them with bedliner, or something along those lines. I think real rocks would be best, they are heavy so they won't move as much, and if you get tired of your indoor spot you just dissassemble it and pile it up a different way. And create elevation changes by building frames like axlenut has done so you don't need as many rocks. |

I'll have to get a picture of my little indoor rockpile. Its wimpy compared to Axlenuts. We use just about anything we can get our hands on to elevate the climbs. Axlenut used some wood platforms he had laying around, which can be seen in the pics. In my garage, we just used 8" concrete blocks to make the climbs bigger. I'll try to get an overall pic of Axlenut's rockpile next time I'm over there. I think in all, he only has around $30 invested in it (maybe he'll chime in if I'm wrong). The local rock yard lets us hand pick the rocks, of course you have to hand load them as well! :-( Locally, its only $15 a ton for rip-rap rock. My old lady is FINE with the rocks, but my neighbors.........well they all think we're nuts!! |

That's my problem also - actually getting out of the car and carrying some rocks to the trunk. Plus if I started hauling rocks into the warehouse and piling them up my partners would lynch me. They don't understand crawling (or rc cars in general for that matter) If I had my own house I'd do like redbaron says - just have like 3 tons of rip-rap hauled in! |

Thanks for the pictures Tim! I only have about $30.00 in the rocks. I am planning on getting some more this week. It is like a sickness, you always find a place that could use a few more rocks. When I finally get my "pile" done you won't be able to see any wood.
