Default Team Associated CR12 Trail Series

I've been out of the hobby for a while and I'm looking to get back in.
The truck will be available mid June.
What do you guys think about this new truck?
What are your opinions on it from looking at the pics and video?
Thank you

There are a few other posts. This truck is a re branded thunder tiger. Honestly right now is a great time to get into scale crawlers. Vaterra has their blazer kit and rtr on sale right now, and axial has some great entry level trucks with the honcho and deadbolt.

I'd recommend this ECX Barrage Version 2 (at $20 less) any day over that vehicle:

If you don't like the included body Proline makes a sweet Suzuki Samurai body that is a perfect fit:

As somebody else pointed out on a different thread, it's simply a Thunder Tiger Kaiser XS with a different body. So, while it's sold by AE, it's really a Thunder Tiger product. Despite the two companies having the same owner Thunder Tiger is not in the same league as AE IMO.

The wheelbase at 8.86" is over and inch shorter than the already shortish barrage, and close to 3.5" shorter than an scx10-2. Its kind of an odd, short wheelbase. That means two things. #1 it wont crawl as well as most crawlers out there, and #2, you will have severely limited bodies. 12.3" is the "norm" for crawlers these days, so many bodies are made with that wheelbase. Even the baragge's 10 wheelbase has a huge number of avalable bodeis, most tihings made for the tamia cc01, anything made for the traxxas stampede, and many others....

I believe I'll skip the CR12 and go with the ole faithful Axial. I thought about the Venture.
Thank you guys for your input.

durok nailed it with the barrage.

but if you are looking at a $200 truck, whynot spend another $50 and get a full sized ascender?? regular price is almost $400 so you are stealing it at that price. granted its a kit but most people replace electronics anyway. (servo $30, motor $15, esc $40, radio gear $50-ish)

If I didn't already have 1 Ascender, I'd snap up the kit version...

I paid $399.99 for my RTR, and with the budget electronics I upgraded to, it's noticeably better than with the original parts.

Getting the kit for $249.99 allows for starting out with better electronics, the below setup tallies roughly $130, allowing for an all-in cost of right about $380, for a sweet and personalized rig.

Included with the below parts is a programming box for the ESC, a USB-rechargeable LiPo radio transmitter battery, and an aluminum upgraded servo horn.

$19.99 Holmes Trailmaster Sport motor, you pick the turns (35t is a good choice for the 540-sized can) Holmes Hobbies TrailMaster Sport 540 35T Motor

$18.10 DS3218 servo https://www.amazon.com/Control-Digit...18+servo&psc=1

$41.99 HobbyWing 1080 waterproof ESC Hobbywing QUICRUN WP1080 Waterproof Rock Crawler Brushed ESC, (2-3S)

$47.99 FlySky GT3C radio w/receiver https://www.ebay.com/i/191578239067?chn=ps

If you don't care for the Chevy Blazer body, it's an easy sale here in the Classifieds - pick up your own favorite body and keep in mind that the Ascender has an adjustable wheelbase:

12.36 in (314mm), 11.9 in (302mm), 11.4 in (290mm) and 10.95 in (278mm).

So not $50 more, actually $250 more... Well, plus you are going to replace the tires, so add another $50-$60, plus $30-$40 for some beadlocks (why is it 1.9 crawlers dont come with beadlocks like many 2.2 ones do?).... And finaly you have a sweet crawler....
Thats why I have a barrage and not an SCX10-II... $150 for my barrage (doomsday version). $60 in tires, $30 in wheels, a $20 body, and its a sweet crawler at $260, an new servo is on the list, so call it $290..... Wait, I could have gotten an SCX10-2 kit for $309..... Well, plus a radio, esc, servo, motor, beadlocks, and yes, tires, because as good as the kit tires are, they arent as good as we really want, and you just broke $500....

For now, my barrage is looking pretty good
