head to the supermarket and go down the kitchen section and check out the chopping boards. should be something in that thickness for only a few bucks.

How would you figure out the length of the links, or what ratio of length would you use for 60/40.....? thanks

well, go 50/50, then add 10% to half and take 10% from half. thats why i orefer 50/50, easier to figure, plus if somthing breaks its the same piece front or back.

60/40 would be longer REAR links - yes, so the chassis is more forward than centered on the wheelbase. Last time I made up some links I made the rears 1/2" longer than the fronts. It's probably closer to 55/45 than 60/40, and looking at it you can barely tell. I think it performed better than 50/50, though - I left it that way. 5150, have you seen the yardstick mock-up method? Get 2 wooden yardsticks from the fabric store, drill holes through them at the length of wheelbase you want, then stand them on edge side-by-side and bolt them to your axles with the wheel nuts. Then you can sit your chassis in the center, blocked up to the height you want, and get some accurate link measurements. Last edited by Big Mike; 03-16-2007 at 08:46 PM. |

Big Mike, yea i did just the other day. That is an incredible amount of help. That is what i have been asking for, for months. So the yars sticks are vertical and the numbers are facing outwards and drill hole say at 12.5 on the yard stick and stick stub shaft throught the hole and bolt on... Is that pretty much it? Thanks a lot for the help! |

60/40 link setup with the tranny centered between the axles front to rear. Great climbing but still somewhat balanced up top.

It's a ratio of the length of front links vs. rear links. 60% of the total length in front, 40% in rear = 60/40 chassis.

I prefer to run my comp rig at 50/50. I have tried 60/40 in the past and noticed little difference. From a performance standpoint, I personally don't see any benefit either way. As long as you set up and dial in your rig for that particular configuration you're good to go. I like 50/50 because I only have to carry one length of spare links.
