Default Upside down shocks

I did a search and didnt get anything. So why do so many people run their shocks upside down?

It's just a way to try and keep weight low.

I did it on one because it needed rebuilt so it would leak a lot more if it was right side up.

I was wondering the same thing....................!

I have heard it helps, but doing it myself have not noticed too much, but you have to make mods so the shock moves and does not bind....

Does anybody have an opinion about the traxxas 4in shocks....?

thanks.

hah, that is a good reason....

Do you think running them upside down can have an effect on torque twist or the affect of dampining.......bender....?

thanks for the help

The only reason I run my shocks body-down is because my bottom shock mounts are on the lower links - so I wanted to use the solid body mount there vs. the other end with the ball to eliminate as much play as possible.

An added positive by-product was placing the weight lower on the chassis.

Nope, not really. They still perform the same no matter which end is facing up. You need to adjust things like spring rate, oil weight, COG, and far and away most importantly LINK GEOMETRY to fight torque twist.

Not really, it just keeps weight lower on the chassis.

In a faster vehicle the shock is mounted body-up to reduce unsprung weight, making the suspension work better at speed. Not so much an issue with crawlers, as the shaft velocity is much, much lower than on, say, my Savage X coming in for a landing off a jump at my local BMX track. Crawling is one of the few applications that a body-down mounting makes sense.
