Default What w'b is for you?

Hi

Kevin (thecrawlerstore) is now doing custom backbon's and i see alot of people have taken an intrest in ordering one. I have ordered a 18'' backbone for my stick.

I am just curious on what w'b would be best in your apinion.

Thanks

james

It all depends on your area and what tires you plan on running... Also running dual ESC can help you run a longer wheelbase. But 18in is a good w/b for a super. I think I have mine at 18.5in's...But I keep changing my mind and making another chassis.

I will be running either Masher2000 on RC4WD center cap wheels. Or Moab's on beadlock's.

I will be running my stick mainly on are local see defences where there are sharp and vertical Rocks. There are also some very steep inclines.

I notice that when i go crawling with my dad there He is running a 17'' pimpcane his will climb up more vertical than mine will. As i am only running 16'' wb.

I have read that longer the w'b steeper that truck will climb? Is this correct?

Regards

james

To a point. If you choice to long of a wheelbase you will get High Centered more. For 40's mashers 18in is pushing it. For an 18in wheelbase Moab XL's is what you need. Also for wheels. Get XTM sized wheels. They help to support the side wall more then 40's wheels.

Yeah a while back my dad lost his truck down a BIG gap about 15 foot and he had to lower me down and get it.

We have to go though in the morning about 8.00am as the tide comes in the afternoon. Very cold sometimes and slippy

Sounds like you need special Saftey gear just to crawl. Harness, Scuba gear, extra Water and lots of Rope. Might want to get a winch and hook your self to with a remote key pad. That way if you fall in a huge gap you could just winch yourself out.

Ok As soon as I get gearded Up...I'm ready to do some RC Rock Crawling

We take some rope now and a rather large hook so if they fall just hook it up and pull.

There is one large rock that is about 75 degrees steep and is about 5 foot long. My dad's truck can just drive up it where mine the front wheels come light and lose traction. Maybe when i get the 18'' it would get up. It only just slips.

Is it longer the w'b steeper incline's the truck will go up as the weight is spread out more?

It really comes down to the driver. But you stated you had a shorter wheelbase. That helps alot with Belly clearance. Even with XL's.

i just look on your website. On you gallery. If you scroll down to the bottom row of picture. There is a 17'' pimp cane with masher 2000 and a two tone pinky colour and blue body. That is my dad's truck.
