The problem I see is that powder coating adds thickness to the metal, which can mean that things no longer line up the way they should. Anodizing on the other hand doesn't add any real thickness to the parts.

The problem is, when you powdercoat/anodize, once you hit a rock or roll or whatever, and scratch up the finish, its now worthless, and can look even worse than if it were bare metal that was scratched.

I say rattle can it and use several layers of clearcoat, it'll produce a similar effect and you can touch it up.

Sorry to re-live an old thread, but does someone know of an anodizer that will do parts?

Thanks

Seeing that you are from Detroit, try looking around locally for an anodizing shop. Because I live near Pittsburgh, I went to Pittsburgh Anodizing and had all of these parts anodized for less than $100........and they were glad to something that they don't normally do, such as RC. I would caution you, if you are having aluminum alloy anodized and you work with various grades, such as 6061, 7075, 2024, keep these parts separated and let the anodizer know this or they will come out in different shades, especially if they are done all at once.

Actually if the process is done right powder coating will not chip, scratch, peel or any of the like. It will bend with the metal before it will
do any of that

Powdercoating isn't bullet proof. I know what your saying though,I've seen hack jobs before that would flake, peel and discolor with heat. At the same time though, nomatter how"right" the job was done,it still can be scracthed or chipped off

I'd rather just use a rattle can and touch it up when the need arises

good idea - but then it will stick to rocks instead of slide over them

skyjacker,

Rhino lining is somewhat sticky since it is rubber. I have the entire inside of my scout Rhino lined and I would never Rhino line a chassis or skid plate that I would want to slide over something.

If you have not touched a real Rhini lining then you need to check out my scout and see for yourself. It is deffinitly not as sticky as the other imitation rhino linings though.

sorry for the confusion i was trying to say it wouldnt be that big of a deal if you did it to the chassis. just not the skid plates. here is a pic of one of the cages i have made just incase you havent seen my work. lol I think it would be cool to rinio line the cage its self and do a mirror like polish to the skids and body panel what do you think?

I vote 'polish it'. Thers nothing wrong with a purdy rig!
Get the powder coat system from Eastman and then you can do all yours and your friends part. They have a cheaper system that works pretty good, NOT like the 'steel horse' powder coated parts (if you wheel full size Jeeps you know how crappy thier PC is :? )
