that takes the heart and soul out of rc crawling. half the fun is customizing and fabbing it yourself.

On a $500 budget, you get no heart and soul. You have to pay more for heart or soul..................and the heart/soul combo is $$$$.

But to truly test yourself, and put your heart and soul in to fab a rig for $500 is quite accomplish able, but I don't think this thread is about all that.

wow. i guess i was wrong. but then again, i built my crawler for less than 300 and it kicks ***. i had almost just as much fun building it as i do driving it, even if i was on a tight budget. it just seemed like that was what this whole hobby was based upon, customizing your rc so it would tackle the knarly stuff. guess im alone on that one

I would have hit up the Wheely King before getting the PTI rig. If you are going to want to add "flashy'ness" to that PTI rig, you better know how to fab parts.

Wheely King(HPI) = Aftermarket support/goodies
PTI rig = Umm...

I like the looks of the PTI truck stock. Comes with the tires I like, and its set up out of the box to be a trail truck, which is what I wanted in a 2.2 rig. Also, it will get me going while I build a full out large scale rig.

You did know that the PTI truck has on-road car parts right? Plastic gears are fine for carpet racing....

And they will work fine for this application too. Sheesh.

I also plan to get the Axial truck coming out. Not like I am limited to just one truck. I saw the PTI, liked it, and for $185 thought I would give it a try. If I don't end up liking it, its not the end of the world. We don't have hardcore rock crawling here, more woods and hill climbs. For what we do, I bet it will work fine.

Yeah you guys were right, the Goliath is a piece of crap. Already stripped the rear ring and pinion, and broke 2 ball cups. And thats just on the first battey pack. And before someone says its because the mesh was wrong, it cleaned the teeth clean off the ring gear, full tooth contact. Had to add a GD 600 since crawl ratio was no where close. Thats what I get for not listening I guess.

Hmmm.... Not counting electronics huh...well, lets see here.

(for a Super class crawler)

NN chassis from Crawler Store(comes with all links and mounts)- $189.99
Clodbuster axles- $129.99
Wheels and tires-about $100-$150

Comes to a grand total of $420-$470. Just about where you want it right. And electronics, well, that can vary greatly depending on the servos, motors, batteries, and radio.

Keep an eye on ebay if your patient there are great deals.

Last week I scored 2 TLT axels, 1 Hitec wheel radio and reciever , 1 set of Moabs , 1 set of 2000k mashers both with uncut foams. a NN chassis with links unused and misc stuff. $87.99

Thats a good start on a crawler
