Default Brazing coat hanger?

I have some steal coat hanger, with some paint or some type of coating on it...comes off easily. Does anyone know if you could braze coat hanger?

Also, what type of isle would flux and brazing rod be in? Pluming? Welding?

I used to use solder to build mini tubers for my micro crawlers

You mean use it as the consumable? I don't know if brazing is hot enough to melt the coat hanger, although I used to know a welder that used hangers for cheap fixes.

If you're talking about using the coat hanger as the material for your chassis, why not? Just silver solder it together.

If you are thinking of using coat hanger as a brazing medium, I'd think again. I've seen it used in "emergencies" but it is not predicatable or consistant.

Solder strong enough to join coat hangers can be found in the plumbing AISLE of Lowes or Home Depot. Brazing supplies are going to have to be sourced from a welding supply house...

I meant brazing together, sorry for the confusion. (for a chassis)

And you mean I can't get brazing rod (Safty silv 56% or what ever) and flux (not sure on which one) at Lowes/Homedepot? or are you just talking about the heat source?

At Lowes/Home Depot you'll be able to get (if they have it in stock you never know with either) solder and flux to "sweat" copper pipe. What I've always called "50/50" solder. For a small scale coat hanger "tuber" that will be plenty strong.

Harris Safety Silv you'll probably have to get from a welding supply or jewelry making supply. For what you want to do it's a little on the overkill side, Safety Silv is STRONG stuff.

I've never made a tube chassis, but I have soldered guards/bolsters/pommels onto many a knife blade. "50/50" plumbers solder has always been plenty strong enough for this application...

yo can get brazing flux and the rods at depot. but you have to go to a welding supply store for the saftey silv stuff.
I have used only the rods from depot and they do fine. just get the white ones and some mapp gas and the brazing flux and your gtg

How big are you planning on making this tuber? I wouldn't use hangers unless its 1:24 or somthing small. If your doing 1:10 use brake line, rod or piano wire or somthing.

Well, the chassis isn't going to be just one rod.. its going to be a few rods grouped together for more strength... and it IS just an experiment/test. 1/10th.

And thanks for your help guys.

I used coat hangers for the web on the stickler. I wouldn't use if for the main chassis though.
If you put a bunch togeather it'd almost be a waste of time and silv, but would defenatly be interesting to see.

here is a pic of the webing on the stickler.
